Gramatik’s been hard at work on his upcoming Epigram EP, and if the first two singles off of the album are any indication it’s going to be a monster.
One of the two current releases from Epigram, “Native Son” featuring Raekwon of Wu-Tang Clan fame and Orlando Napier, is a picture perfect metaphor for Gramatik’s music.
Hip hop, R&B, and soul – Napier and Raekwon’s backgrounds illustrate different sides of the musical spectrum that Gramatik is already deeply engrossed in.
In line with the rest of Gramatik’s tunes, “Native Son” is a soulful hip hop chiller that’s rife with live instrumentation to grab any soul straight by the feels. Featuring Napier on vocals and keys, Raekwon on vocals Adam Stehr on guitar, and Gramatik throwing down additional key work – “Native Sun” has the simultaneous feel of a jazz lounge and a hip hop show.
Soulful, jazzy, dark, and deep – “Native Sun” is a mystical blend of everything that is good in music today. Staying true to their roots while progressing toward something entirely new, each artist brings their own seasonings to the table for Gramatik’s “Native Sun” brew.
