SOPHIE’s “Lemonade” is mouth dropping – it’s progressive – it’s nothing you have ever heard before.
Known for creating music just like his album covers, SOPHIE keeps it plastic, dripping, vivid & vibrant.
It’s tough to peg a style with SOPHIE due to his chameleon nature.
With SOPHIE’s unique electronic sound, he carved a huge dent in the music world middle of 2013 releasing “Bipp/Elle”. No one knew what to expect afterwards from this new producer on NUMBERS record label.
The music created by SOPHIE is super unique; friends include A. G. Cook & Hannah Diamond of PC Music record label, Rustie, and Cashmere Cat.
The music they create is definitely from the future with hints of 90’s staple club synth sounds – they create electronic music that is “wet”, utilizing “drips” in sound effects and musical cues, and work together on the DJ circuit.
They’re known for having a “maximalist” sound with in your face synth work, bass lines, and vibrant soundscapes.
“Lemonade” is no different.
SOPHIE released “Lemonade/Hard” in the latter half of 2014, which starts right off the bat with wet bubbles. Just when you think you should change it or dismiss the song entirely SOPHIE pulls the mat from under your feet with a jiggling/wet bass line.
Vocally on top are the pitched vocals of “Lemonade, luh-luh, lemonade” and the synths below bubble upwards. When the chorus comes in, it changes entirely to this giddy, beyond catchy, vocal hook (definitely influenced by KPOP and JPOP styles).
It’s almost impossible to turn away at this point. It’s pretty surreal and unique – while everyone in the electronic world has been clamoring to make laptop produced music sound real SOPHIE pulls you into the true PC sound; this is pure digital.
