With his debut singles “BTSU” (Drake would later sample this) and “Jasmine,” the world was ready for the mastermind behind the production to release his debut. What followed instead was an incidental album leak of unmastered material.
This unofficial leak would chart countless Top 10 charts despite nothing official coming from Jai Paul that entire year.
The leading jam off of the Jai Paul leaked “album” was standout jam “Str8 Outta Mumbai“. BenZel, Umi Takahashi and Yoko Watanabe, have created a unique spin on this track with his reworking. Chopping and skewing the song, BenZel re-pitches the vocals and puts the breaks on the track.
1:50 is where BenZel’s sound begins to bleed through with scattering tight hi-hats, sharp snares, and ambient sound stabs fused with glittering synths. The beautiful vocal repitching towards the end of the track allow the true genius of Jai Paul to pulse through while still capturing BenZel’s unique take on the track.
While Jai Paul hasn’t officially released anything since 2012, this is a welcomed remix to fill that void.
