The global electro-acoustic duo Dirtwire has released their fourth album, the RipTide LP, and it’s already one of our favorite album drops of 2015.

Dirtwire is an unusual band; a distinct blend of new and old world music. Fusing sounds from a myriad of traditional instruments, rhythms, and beats with new-age electronic production, Dirtwire creates something that harkens back to a Middle-Eastern-folk-EDM type feel – if we had to put words to it. Sound crazy? It is.

It’s insane, it’s refreshing, and it’s incredibly new.

Comprised of David Satori (Beats Antique) and Evan Fraser (The Dogon Lights, Hamsa Lila, and Stellamara), Dirtwire is truly unlike any band that you’ve ever listened to. Their music is reminiscent of Beats Antique, Desert Dwellers, Kaleidoscope Jukebox, and others – but their music so much more as well.

With Dirtwire’s funky world-beat-blended electro-acousto-fusion, RipTide introduces some of the most eclectic tracks that we’ve heard this year.

RipTide is a showcase of musicianship and one can hear acoustic and electric guitar, harmonica, violin, an assortment of hand drums, accordion, and banjo (we think) scattered over the album.

Mixing these natural sounds with EDM’s warped out textures, vocals, and samples and transposing them over some straight up in the pocket downtempo grooves and you have something completely awesome. You have Dirtwire’s RipTide album.

The album is a solid piece of work through and through. We’ve been listening to it nonstop since its release and it has only gotten better with time. If you’re looking to trance out in swirling fusion of world-beat-esque grooves, get your hands on this album because it won’t disappoint.

RipTide is a refreshing taste of resonances, beats, and harmonies that sound as in place in a meditation halls as it does on festival sound systems. Give the whole album a listen and get ready for the ride.
