XXYYXX (Marcel Everett) is officially back and I couldn’t be happier; and you should be too. XXYYXX melted ears worldwide in 2012 with his track “ABOUT U” that destroyed Beyonce’s lyrics into “Pass me that roofie”; you couldn’t even tell it was originally Beyonce’s “End of Time.” His distinct style was akin to Lil’ B/A$AP ROCKY producer Clams Casino but with a different vibe to it. This time around, XXYYXX has reworked SIVIK’s “U Got” into something special.

SIVIK’s original version of “U Got” is wide, deep, and sounds like Travis Garland/The Weeknd on steroids. This is because of the 90’s R&B underlying structure infused with deep ambient sound of 2010’s. However, XXYXX saw this as the perfect opportunity to pull away to create a classic “less is more” vibe.

XXYYXX alters the vocals by putting them “behind” the drums – it’s almost a whisper. It isn’t until the chorus, does he pull the vocals forward that are augmented by the sweeping pads and glittering synth riffs in the background. He makes a stark contrast between the verses and chorus parts to help highlight SIVIK’s vocal abilities. After the 2:30 minute mark, XXYYXX takes the track and dims it to a fade. Hold on though, he isn’t done.

The last minute is unreal. The flip works so well – it’s one of those moments where you are next to a friend listening to a tune and hit them on the shoulder as both of you go “OH SH*T.” It’s a magical moment that XXYYXX has threaded together perfectly to help highlight his prowess as a stellar producer. He chops and skews everything prior and makes you want more; it’s as if he’s teasing you that there could be more…
