montell2099 Takes Us Into The Future and Beyond With Monster Track “space”

montell2099 has been on the scene for almost a year now and has been producing strong, deep, and interesting cuts. Akin to TNGHT, Rustie, Sinjin Hawke and Cashmere Cat, 18 year old New Zealand producer montell2099 excels at vibrant, deep, thick, atmospheres that crush the bass, subwoofers, and anything else caught in its wake. “space” recently dropped, and is his most promising track to date.

“space” starts out with reverbed electric piano and soft ambient synths. As the audio progresses, it unfilters to open up and become clearer – as if we are walking out of a fog. Around the 1 minute mark it truly develops into something thick – the sound becomes denser with scattering arpeggios, a clearer melodic line, and a low swine of the bass begins to develop.

Just as you settle into the color of the track, montell2009 rips out the rug from under you and drops you to the floor.

Once the drop hits, it is more of a flip as the track morphs into something new entirely – hard, staggering trap bass drum kicks stutter over a soaring arpeggiated synth.

In a way most producers chop and skew vocals, montell2099 does the same with the synth melody that slowly enters in before the drop. It sizzles, scatters, and moves quickly to keep your attention – the groove he locks you into from this point on is near impossible to escape. You’re stuck in montell2099’s “space”.
