Lapalux – “Don’t Mean A Thing”

Lapalux, Stuart Howard, is an Essex producer from Flying Lotus’s record label BRAINFEEDER.

He is known for his ability to utilize strong hip-hop structures based in percussion like J. Dilla (like many BRAINFEEDER artists), but formulate thick, atmospheric textures in the electronic vein.

His second track from his forthcoming album “Lustmore” is the evocative “Don’t Mean A Thing.”

Featuring a typical Lapalux-sound, the song begins swallowed in a fog.

As soon as the snare hits, the groove pulls through the fog, pulling you out of misdirection into a pulse. At the 1:00 mark the vocals kick in pitched up and echoed over the top.

The song continues to evolve at the 2:00 mark with a strong cutting synth slicing the track in half – no longer are we in a fog, but a vibrant eerie soundscape. The whole track acts as a crescendo, slowly adding more and more textures until it reaches its climax with the eerie theremin-ish solo towards the second half of the piece.

It’s another great addition to Lapalux’s growing collection of emotive music.

“Lustmore” will be out April 7th, 2015 on BRAINFEEDER.
