Kinky is perhaps the best word to describe The Floozies’ tunes. If you don’t know who The Floozies are, you’ve got some learnin’ to do.
This funky two-piece is making some of the downright dirtiest and most insanely warped out electro-funk music in the world today.
Midwestern boys at heart, the duo of brothers Matt and Mark Hill have been hard at work these past several years, performing hundreds of shows while still somehow finding time to record and release two full-length albums on GRiZ’s label, All Good Records.
Releasing their full-length effort Do Your Thing earlier this year, there’s no better way to pay our respects to the funk-monster monolith that is The Floozies is than, well, get kinky with them.
Overall, ‘Kinky’ exemplifies what The Floozies do best and it’s a great intro to the 21st-century-space-funk that they bring to the table.
The album is awash in it.
Live guitar and drums over slap-yo-mama good bass squelches, vivid synths, punctual horns, and much, much more. There’s a little something to hit everyone’s rhythm bone in a Floozies track.
‘Kinky’ starts out in traditional Floozies style.
Bright and busting at the seams with silliness, they remind us that music doesn’t have to be so serious to be felt deep in the bones.
It just has to groove. And groove, my friends, is what they do best. Moving seamlessly through the track and on down the funk rollercoaster there are more surprises to be had as ‘Kinky’ goes through its full progression.
As the track makes its final run-around, guitarist Matt Hill breaks out a guitar solo that shows us that he’s not just a pro on the 1’s and 2’s, but he has some a seriously slick bag of tricks up his sleeve for his six-string as well. It’ll leave you wanting more, you can guarantee it.
Before sending you off into the far-flung funky realm of The Floozies, let us leave you with this little bit of knowledge: the whole new album is available for free via their website.
Yes that’s right, free. Not a cent.
Of course, for those wanting to support The Floozies and offer up a little somethin’ somethin’ to the band, it is available for purchase via iTunes as well. So, head over to The Floozies’ page and snag a piece of the funky pie for yourself.
