Is Georgia Still on Your Mind? A Look Back at CounterPoint Music Festival 2014

Saturday, April 26

The tunes kept on pumping through the second day.

Chris Bushnell turned up the volume before things got weird at the Floozies (any one see those two girls twerking the entire time?). Butch Clancy reminded us all the definition of “Turn Up,” and A-Trak got itchy on the decks showing us why he is the best scratch DJ in the game while highlighting some of our Duck Sauce favorites.

Hucci got downright nasty at the Steeple Stage. Any one else know this dude is only 17 years old? All I can say is that this kid is going to be around for a long time. Keep your eyes peeled for him to become one of the biggest names in trap music in the coming years.

Influenced by Pretty Lights and GramatikGRiZ kept things silky smooth, playing tracks off his latest project “Rebel Era” and also touching on Mad Liberation. Even with one of the best sets of the weekend, this was just the beginning for GRiZ (but more to come on that later).

The World’s Funkiest Diplomat

From there it was on to one of the best sets of the weekend. Despite being delayed 45 minutes, “The Family” eagerly waited at the Underground Stage for The Polish Ambassador to make his appearance. Once he was out on stage, the man in the World’s funkiest diplomat lit it up, curating a set that controlled the crowd like a master puppeteer. Beginning with the captivating riffs of Explosions in the Sky, the man in the yellow jumpsuit sprinkled in new and old sounds alike with appearances from Ayla Nereo and saQI before ending with a brand new call and response song that had the whole crowd screaming “Put All Your Heart in It.”

Wait, there’s more?

You Are the Sun And Moon to Me

Above & Beyond closed out the night in true trance family fashion. As confetti floated through the sky, Paavo and Tony provided a little bit of Group Therapy introducing us to their latest track “Sticky Fingers,” building us up to push the button, and closing out with a mesmerizing rendition of “Sun & Moon.”

The hype continued at the silent disco as everyone journeyed back for the night. Those that stuck around were provided with some local hometown groove including SyL-o who ended the night with his new single “Butt Fun.” That one definitely got a giggle out of the crowd. But don’t let that fool you. Track went hard. Definitely recommend checking the Atlanta native out.

And then there was one.

  1. Great Article! I wish I could time travel back to all of it<3
The photo on the first page though, Blonde girl throwing a heart out to Pretty Lights, is my photo. Photos are intellectual property of the owner by default, so I do own the copyrights to this photo, so if I could get some photo cred? That'd be awesome!

  2. You have for sure put Georgia back on my mind! There were sooo many amazing sets that weekend. I will definitely be back and recommend to any and all festival goers.
