Of all of the festivals taking place in the southeast this year, Counterpoint might be shaping up to be the biggest, baddest, and most eclectic one around.
Traditionally, Counterpoint has been an EDM-specific festival, catering to fans with an almost exclusively EDM lineup. But this year, they’re shaking things up a bit and branching out to include a more diverse lineup, featuring a multitude bands as well as producers and DJ’s.
What that really means – the lineup looks freakin’ good.
Held in Rome, GA (about an hour-fifteen northwest of Atlanta) from May 22 through May 24, Counterpoint is looking to be one of the more promising (if not the most promising) festival experience in the southeast this summer. With headliners Widespread Panic, Zedd, The Roots, and Kygo, one can already get a sense for the varied lineup that this year’s festival is bringing to Kingston Downs.
Overall the lineup basically goes tit-for-tat between bands and DJ’s/producers, alternating names such as Knife Party and Umphrey’s McGee, Zeds Dead and Galactic, or Papadosio and the Emancipator Ensemble, etc. Some other notable names from the organic and electronic worlds include:
Tipper, Ott, Rebelution, Michal Menert, Minnesota, Earphunk, Haywyre, Tauk, and many, many more.
With a lineup as diverse and varied as that, there’s definitely a little something for everyone this year, and what can be expected will be nothing short of an earth-shatteringly good time and what could wind up being your favorite festival moments of the year.
In addition to the lineup there’s the stellar list of workshops, visual artists, galleries, vendors, and more to educate and entertain. Head out to Counterpoint’s website to get educated on the ancillary happenings that will be going on at Counterpoint this year.
With 2015 being the third year of the festival, Counterpoint’s definitely getting dialed in and ready to go for this year’s rendition.
As festivals flourish and mature each year brings added bonuses for fans and organizers learn and grow together, perfecting the overall experience for everyone involved.
Security, parking, hospitality, etc. can be streamlined to make for a better experience. Problem areas such as long wait times to get in can be reduced.
Favorite artists and vendors come back with an idea of how to improve their installations, operations, and everything else under the sun.
In short, it makes for a better experience.
From personal experience, once a festival starts hitting the third or fourth year, everything seems to fall into place. During the second year, things start to go a little more smoothly, and by the third or fourth years both festivalgoers and staff alike know what to expect.
Is the weather normally rainy? Super hot? If it downpours where are the places that you’ll want to avoid putting your tent, or your car for that matter? Counterpoint is definitely hitting its stride this year, and we expect nothing short of an incredible experience.
We’re thrilled that Counterpoint has continued to evolve, adapt, and exceed into its fourth year.
Setting up yet another destination on the festival map of America, we’d like to see them succeed in their goal of bringing good music to wanting ears.
And, while advance passes are still available, head over to their website and see if it’s the right festival for you. Who knows, it may even be the perfect one!
