Beginning his music journey as a mixing engineer and in A&R (Artist & Repertoire), Hiding in Headstones emerges with his sophomore release, ‘Iniquity’, a rare fusion of DnB and trap. Out on Cozy Coffin Records, the intricate production packs a full sound filled with twilight textures, brass horns, and a steaming DnB build that seamlessly transitions to a hard-hitting trap drop. Dylan shares on his approach to ‘Iniquity’:
It may not be incredibly apparent, but this release is showing some restraint in the consistency of the Hi-Hats throughout the drop sections of the song. I almost always have a consistent Hi-Hat pattern (most of the time even multiple patterns) running throughout the entirety of my production efforts and with this record I reigned the Hats in and had them hit only where they needed to, to add something to the other elements of production around them. Other than that, it was really fun to get the brass hits just right in terms of velocity and sound on the drop. I haven’t experimented a ton with Brass/Horns in the past, but I love the way that they turned out on ‘Iniquity’.

2020 was an extremely challenging year for a lot of people, myself included, and unfortunately it took me to some dark places that I never thought I would go to mentally. I dealt with what I was feeling in 2020 in what would be described at best as some incredibly self-destructive behavior and Iniquity was ultimately a way for me to release of all of that negative energy that I was harboring and allow myself to be happy, productive and healthy again.
At the time of writing this, I’m grateful to say that I’m in the best shape of my life, both mentally and physically. Sometimes, even in our darkest hour, we are capable of finding the light again if we allow ourselves to look for it.
Were there any artists that inspired this fusion of DnB and Trap?
I don’t know if any one artist, or sound inspired Iniquity…but I’ve been listening to a lot of old NGHTMRE lately, so some of his production style may have slipped into ‘Iniquity’ unconsciously.
What is next for Hiding in Headstones?
A ton of new singles, a few of which are collaborative efforts that I can’t wait for the world to hear!
