Electronic dance music has been sweeping across the globe with increasing momentum, especially over the last 5 years. Though international destinations like London’s Fabric and Ministry of Sound along with Pacha and Space in Ibiza have been drawing throngs of bass-craving EDM lovers from around the World, the United States has begun to establish itself as one of the premiere electronic dance music scenes.
Each year tens of thousands people travel to the United States for the burgeoning music festival scene, vast array of nightclubs from coast to coast, and big name tour dates like the upcoming ABGT100 at Madison Square Garden. The expansion is further evident by international brands such as ID&T bringing Tomorrowland and Mysteryland to U.S. soil. The largest and longest running festivals in electronic dance music, respectively, this should definitely tell you something about the explosion of EDM, if nothing else.
With the substantial, endless emergence of new artists and quality music, multi-million dollar economic impact of local events and increasing amount of opportunities for sponsors, more and more EDM-centric recreations are becoming available. And while you will always have those businesses that fail within their space, the sub-par “competition” is quickly weeding itself out leaving only top notch entertainment options and raising the bar in terms of expectation.
With such a large amount of quality options from city to city, you essentially have be on level with the best of the best right out of the gate. This ‘arms race’ of sorts is leading to better sound quality, enhanced production, better music, and an, overall, multi-sensory, all-encompassing experience that sucks you in and spits you out life changed and mind blown.
So where should you go if you can’t quite afford to jet set to Ibiza and dance until sunrise in the white Spanish sands?
We have taken a look at multiple studies that evaluate nightclubs per capita, quality establishments, music festivals, local artists and record labels, and economic impact to determine the top EDM cities in the United States.
