The future funk maestro, Russ Liquid, is a bit of a rarity in the electronic music landscape.
Coming from a traditional music background, Liquid is classically trained on piano, trumpet, saxophone, and flute. Having spent his 20’s touring the Caribbean and South America with a jazz quintet, Liquid has a far-reaching rang of influences that find their way into his sound.
“Euqsom”, off of 2013’s Foreign Frequency, is a roaming exploration into the spacey sounds of bass music.
With a warm-yet-warped sound, bass sputters as bent vocals soar through the track to provide an otherworldly feel. Off-kelter percussion juxtaposes itself agains smooth piano rolls to give the song a distinct color and flavor.
If you aren’t familiar with the artist, give his work a listen. Having released albums with both STS9’s 1320 Records and Gramatik’s Lowtemp music, you know that his tunes speak for themselves.
