The day Porter fans have been waiting for has finally arrived.

The film was produced by Japanese animation studio A-1 Pictures and directed by Toshifumi Akai, while Robinson is credited as writer and executive producer.

The film was also produced by Vincent Shortino and Takuma Sugi of the popular anime streaming website, Crunchyroll.

According to the official website for “Shelter The Animation”, the synopsis for the short film states:

Rin, a 17-year-old girl, lives inside a futuristic simulator in infinite, beautiful loneliness. Each day, she awakens in virtual reality to create a world for herself, yet in real life, Rin’s comatose body floats through the universe, forever trapped inside a virtual simulation she will never wake up from…

Porter added onto the story through a Facebook post, which stated that the main character, Rin, is living in a simulated environment created by her father to save her from the end of the world, but she is in this environment alone for all of eternity.

“Shelter” stuns as a 6-minute short film full of beautiful moments in animation and plot.

The 6-minute long film showcases the stunning landscapes of Rin’s world through key animator Megumi Kouno‘s beautiful animation and character design. The story is full of emotion with Rin living day-to-day trying to feel connected to someone or something and through her flashback of memories as a child with her father. It’s hard to not hold back the tears.

With the release of this animation, Porter Robinson has opened a new doorway for himself to express himself creatively in the future. Fans have already begun theorizing the story behind Rin, how it connects to Worlds and how it could relate to tracks “Sad Machine” and “Goodbye to a World”. No matter which route Robinson finds himself going towards, fans are sure to follow and support.
