Lemaitre are back with their brand new EP Afterglow and are switching it up this time around.
The Norwegian-duo of Ketil Jansen and Ulrik Denizou Lund burst onto the scene back in 2010 with their track “Momentum” on the Friendly Sound EP. Lemaitre followed this up with the release of the iconic Relativity Series EPs: Relativity 1, 2 and 3 and Relativity by Nite and the release of their Singularity EP, prior to touring with Porter Robinson and Giraffage for Worlds Tour. The duo was also featured on Worlds for the track “Polygon Dust”.
Lemaitre continue to grow on their sixth EP release with Afterglow
Afterglow was released on October 7th via Astralwerks and is the duo’s sixth EP release to date. The four-song EP includes previously released tracks “Playing to Lose”, featuring Stanaj, and “We Got U”, featuring New York-based funk duo The Knocks, and newly released tracks “Haze”, with stunning guest vocals from up-and-comer Phoebe Ryan, and “Last Night on Earth”.
The short-but-sweet Afterglow EP evokes feelings of what it’s like to be young, in love and carefree.
As the follow up to this year’s previous EP 1749, Lemaitre have broken from their funk/nu-disco roots and have embraced a more pop-electro sound. Collectively, the EP gives a feeling of what it’s like to be young, carefree and hopelessly in love. The lyrics for “We Got U” and “Last Night on Earth” discuss memories of spontaneous moments and how they are “stupid and sad, horrible but not bad” (as all young adults feel at some point in life’s journey). Switch to “Playing to Lose” and “Haze” and the lyrics bring up those feelings of love that feels wrong and love that just feels perfect.
Lemaitre‘s switch-up in sound is definitely successful in this new release. Each track brings its own bit of electro-pop perfection to the EP and are extremely infectious. It’s hard not to get caught up in the feelings brought on by Afterglow (myself included), as we have all have experienced, or are experiencing, these kinds of emotions or moments. Hearing the duo continue to grow with each release is refreshing and it is exciting to see where their sound will go next.
The release of Afterglow comes just in time with Lemaitre heading out on their We Got U Tour
The timing of the release of Afterglow is perfect as the duo are hitting the road this fall with their We Got U Tour, featuring special guests Coucheron, Chet Porter and Imagined Herbal Flows. The tour kicks off this month on October 20th in San Francisco, California.
