RKCB recently dropped the track “Elevated” that is in the futuristic R&B style. The track has a slow groove, falsetto focused melody, and punchy synths. However, k?d comes along and flips the entire track on it’s head.
k?d makes a monstrous remix of RKCB’s “Elevated” by heightening and widening the sound.
The original track sits in a comfortable zone. There isn’t too much tension and pull, highs or lows and overall is an enjoyable song. k?d takes the successful elements from the original and injects the sound with a dose of adrenaline. Establishing the beginning with an electric piano to match the emotive vocals, k?d lets everything float together.
Highlighting the vocals in the beginning, k?d intelligently flips the soundscape on the words “Stop. Breathe.” to give the song a new pulse.
Instead of the traditional build up, k?d’s take is refreshing.
With a strong synth saw under filtered drums, it pulls back just enough to let the contrast of the drop feel explosive. What k?d gives is an explosive 30 second instrumental section that wanes, moans, and flitters. Wide popping drums, low distorted bass lines, higher choir synths, and added sound effects really gives the song a whole new meaning.
Just as quickly as k?d floors you, he drops us back into the 2nd verse with the vocals being highlighted over the familiar electric piano from the beginning. k?d then drops us back into the heavy explosive instrumental section.
k?d saves the real adrenaline kick for the final minute.
Finally combining the vocals, k?d lets RKCB to be accompanied by the deep bass, synths, and drums. As the final melody rolls out, k?d pulls back the last seconds to allow the vocals – the true highlight of the track – finish out the wonderful remix.
