Comprised of producers Drama Diablo and Adium, if the duo’s first release as the Honor Roll Misfits proves one thing it’s that they’ll be destroying dance floors in no time with their dark and sinister sound.
Well-known for their work as individual artists, Drama Diablo and Adium have collectively shared the stage with some of today’s top artists in the dance music and hip hop scenes including Steve Aoki, Excision, Tipper, SNAILS, Dieselboy, MSTRKRFT, Mobb Deep, Machine Gun Kelly, Tech N9ne, Bone Thugs and Harmony, and more.
“Just Wanna Ride”, the first single from their upcoming Head of the Class EP, starts well away from the dark vibe that takes over later in the track. With pop-inflected vocals, synths sputter and skirt around a catchy vocal melody to give the track an easygoing feel from the outset. Around the 0:46 mark, “Just Wanna Ride” prepares for its ascension with rising synths and crescendoing percussion that foreshadows the mayhem that’s about to come.
At 1:13 the duo defines the duality of their sound with the growling lyrics, “I just wanna f***ing ride!” searing their way into ruthlessly driving drop that quickly ensues. A pummeling bass line and massive electro synths give “Just Wanna Ride” new shape and character as the dance party is unleashed with the drop, and the track shows its true colors with the changing momentum.
Easing its way back into a relaxed break, listeners are lulled in before the track pounces again, dropping like a ton of bricks onto eager listeners’ eardrums.
With a unique style that’s not easily found in the electronic realm, make sure to listen to “Just Wanna Ride” to get a feel for HRM’s progressive sound. After that, keep an eye out for their Head of the Class EP; it’ll give you the full taste of the group’s bass fury.
