Drug use has always been a taboo subject. While it remains a fact that there are bound to be drug users at any mass gathering or event, music festivals (and especially dance music festivals) are looked at with a threatening eye for the “deviant culture” that these events are said to attract.
What it really boils down to is human nature.
As every drug enforcement policy in history has shown, there has always been and always will be substance users and abusers in society. Up to our current point in human civilization’s meteoric progression, that simple statement has always remained a fact.
Some organizations are choosing to fight the good fight and make it their mission to educate consumers about substances and reduce the harm done on individuals by said materials.
Organizations like The Bunk Police and DanceSafe have taken it upon themselves to provide information to festival and event attendees about the substances that they may or may not be consuming in order to reduce potential harm from said illicit substances.
The name of the game is harm prevention – and we applaud these organizations for it.
While it’s definitely safer to abstain from drug use – education is the next best alternative. By giving event attendees better tools to educate themselves, we can progress our culture to focus on the real goal: safely enjoying dance music.
