Electric Forest is an eight-day two-weekend music festival, with a target on electronic music and jam band genres, held in Rothbury, Michigan on June 22-25 and June 29-July 2, 2017. Since the festival debuted in 2011, it has only grown into a radiant wonder.
There is something very momentous spending four days at Electric Forest, separated from the world, yet feeling very connected with nature, music and people.
Every year, Electric Forest, always pulls talented artists from throughout the world and minister a lineup that makes the event top notch. We created a playlist for you to listen to as you pack your bags, as you prepare your outfits, or for your drive to the festival.
Here are some highlights we thought that are a must see at the festival:
The first track we highlight is by Thievery Corporation with a funky track of ‘Richest Man in Babylon’, who will be playing on weekend two. Thievery Corporation is a Washington-based duo consisting of a recording artist and DJ that brings a style of Brazilian music.
Their music is imitative from samba but focused on melodic tunes and smaller percussion also known as bossa nova. As a result of their style: a fan base that lust for more. This track is a reflection of their working putting you in a chippy mood.
After blowing fans away at Lightning in a Bottle, Bob Moses comes in next on the playlist with Grammy award winning, ‘Tearing Me Down’. Performing both weekends at the Forest, this track has a fine sound with electronic pop beats combined. The Canadian electronic duo, originally from Vancouver, British Columbia, undeniably will fascinate us with a kinetic yet, lively performance.
There are countless of festivals that our next artist has performed, and without a surprise, they will be taking on the Forest. Tycho follows with ‘See’ (Feat. Beacon) conveying ambient sounds. It shows why they continue to be booked as this track gives a smooth transition from a gradual tune to upbeat without over doing it. In previous performances, Tycho has shown only to invite more fans to watch him as they continue to lead an impressive set.
String Cheese Incident follows on our Electric Forest playlist with ‘Sweet Spot’ to deliver a cheery track to get you out of any bad mood.
They have been in the fan eye as they pledge with inspirational and uprightness, for their creative way to deal with the field of music. The track shows their roots coming from Colorado Rocky Mountains, preceding with bluegrass taste.
UK artist, Funtcase along with Dirtyphonics, get filthy, goes raw and will have you wear a neck brace after listening. Not only will the summer sun make it hot on the weekend two, since Funtcase will be performing some of his hot tracks. Headbangers are always enlightened by his performances since “chill” isn’t nowhere on decks.
Nearly almost breaking your neck, we decide to reverse the next one to the 20-year old producer, Eden with ‘Gravity’. The single begins with a well-rounded vocal, that progressively builds along with the track. The sound from Eden is always filled with a deep emotional atmosphere, almost leaving you in a tearful stance. Eden will be at the Forest on weekend one playing his electronic indie tracks.
You can’t go anywhere without dropping the name Claude Von Stroke, and not for at least one person confirm his talent.
For the twelfth track on our Electric Forest playlist, we picked ‘The Rain Break’ by Claude VonStroke.
The bass line on this one will have you moving as it thoroughly collides with robotic vocals. Other than his talent, he is also known for owning the popular festival, Dirtybird Campout where similar sounds are showcased. You can catch the man himself on both weekends at the Forest.
By simply having piano keys and guitar stokes topped with vocals, a beautiful track is born. That leads us to the track with ‘Leave Your Lover’, by Echos. Echos has recently been in the spotlight after performing at well-known festivals and working with producers like Illenium and Seven Lions. Playing both weekends, we are looking forward to some of their purest melodies.
The next feature on our Electric Forest playlist is someone who has been on the rise the past year, Rezz.
Rezz comes in with her progressive, intense techno track, ‘Lucifer’. Her sound is like no other, as she gives us a dark, eerie spin on her releases. With sold out shows, it didn’t come to a surprise that she will be performing both weekends at the Forest. Receiving significant recognition from Deadmau5 and Skrillex, we are pumped to see her illuminate us with her dark side on decks.
The next highlight will shift you as if you are floating in a dream. Jai Wolf comes through with ‘Starlight’ featuring passionate vocals of Mr. Gabriel. Jai will be performing both weekends with his euphoric tracks, giving his fans goose-bumped, nostalgic performances!
We wrap the playlist up with no other than Shiba San. We included his remix to Chris Malinchak, ‘So Good To Me’, to highlight the unique style of his. He has an immense talent for taking a track and making it his sound. Shiba is the funk to funky tunes so grab your shoes, as you’re about to start shuffling with this remix.
We have other artists included in the playlist like the tropical house vibes from Viceroy, the indie trap from Asadi, digital future fun with Wave Racer, and groovy deep house vibes from Thundertheif who are definitely must sees at the forest.
There will never be enough words to describe how well the makers of Electric Forest did by selecting artists who significantly make an impact for the festival. This vast varied lineup will have fans wanting keep it as a tradition to attend.
Even though selling out the first weekend, there is still a chance to grab your passes for the second weekend here!
