Cassie may forever be immortalized as the one-hit wonder with her track “Me & U” from 2006, but Cassie has been trying to resuscitate her artistry since.
In 2012, she released this well received single “King Of Hearts” intended for her long awaited follow-up that only culminated in her mixtape RockaByeBaby in 2013.
Mastermind London producer Richard X revs up the original track from a mediocre club jam into something fierce.
Immediately you are pulled away into a darker sound scape. Low bass, and Transformer-like squeals shift you into the verse.
The song has direction now, and pierce-fully perfect focus. Cassie’s voice fits perfectly in this soundscape as evident from the original lackluster chorus now glittered with arpeggiated synths.
Cassie has always had a voice that could get lost in her music (possibly why she hasn’t achieved as much fame as she should have a la Jhene Aiko), but Richard X here marries the electronic club feel perfectly into Cassie’s hip-hop world.
Originally this tune was only available via VIMEO with her music video, but Richard X has re-released it via Soundcloud. Enjoy! This is a must have for any mix.
