Australian producer Willaris. K with rapper and sound designer WaveIQ unveiled the official music video for their latest single, “Chapel”. Off Willaris. K’s forthcoming EP Full Noise, the visual for “Chapel” mirrors the track’s frenetic energy in the form of WaveIQ’s powerful DIY performance.
“Chapel” was born out of an all-night session inside a silhouetted hilltop chapel at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La Studios in Malibu. The historic edifice emanated an unmistakable energy of endless creativity as Passion Pit’s Nate Donmoyer commanded a roaring bass while WaveIQ laid on the ground nearby, spitting out verses into the mic.
Willaris presided over the evocative studio scene with one hand on his laptop, another on a vintage synth, while Tim Anderson (Halsey, Banks, etc.) stitched it all together with unparalleled precision.
Directed by Mortis Studio, the creative agency behind iconic projects from Pink Siifu, Tame Impala, Earl Sweatshirt and others, “Chapel” is shot hand-cam style with mixed media text and graphic overlays, immersing the viewer in the chaotic mind of WaveIQ.
Taylor & Dusty of Mortis Studio on the making of “Chapel”: “We had so much fun basically sitting in an empty studio with Wave and letting his energy do all the work. Dude was an unmatched pro and we probably could have walked away after the first run, but we sat around and played with ideas together and were able to catch some incredible moments. In post, we got to experiment with GAN computer learning for a few shots as well as play with some of our favorite FX. The song is fast and catchy so in the edit we tried to match the energy.”
Full Noise is out July 17 on Astralwerks.
