SHEEN put together quite the edit by mixing JoJo’s “I Can Take You There” with Nguzunguzu’s “Foam Feathers”.
Normally no one would peg these two tracks side-by-side as a flawless fit, but they work together perfectly.
Nguzunguzu is from growing U.S. record label Fade to Mind that’s connected to the UK progressive electronic label – Night Slugs – that SHEEN is a part of.
The beginning of SHEEN’s Nguzunguzu & JoJo edit sounds like Cashmere Cat with subtle harp/piano scales trickling down a slurping bass line.
There’s enough sonic space for something to fill the void – and JoJo’s vocals fit perfectly. As soon as the percussion picks up, SHEEN mixes in JoJo’s flawless vocals from the song, “I Can Take You There”. JoJo has always had commanding vocal prowess, and her vocal acrobatics sound effortless.
Sonically, Nguzunguzu’s “Foam Feathers” is an entrancing compliment JoJo’s vocals with pulsing bass lines and dry snare hits puncturing through the beat. As the song progresses subtle balances from Jojo’s track work in: guitar work, jazz piano chords, etc. – all staples of a 2000’s R&B track.
After hearing this, you probably won’t want to listen to either song separate. Unlikely mashups and combinations like this keep the electronic scene so exciting – it’s unlike anything you’ve ever imagined.
