New York-based producer Lucian collaborated with Nashville-based vocalist Remmi to create a lasting ode to the late Robert Kennedy with their track, “Bobby K”.
Immediately kicking off with Remmi’s lyrics detailing the struggles of the late 60’s and the Civil Rights Movement, “Bobby K” provides a vibrant-yet-haunting poem to the past.
With seemingly Nosaj Thing-inspired ambient synths suspended in the far-flung distance, Remmi’s unforgettable lyrics and vocal delivery cut through to the forefront of “Bobby K”.
As the song builds to a head it breaks and dives dives into a slow, bass-heavy march with electro-synths soaring a lasting melody while Remmi’s anthemic “he lives in our hearts” lines weave through the beat.
It’s a remarkable sound.
The Lucian/Remmi team produced a song that’s deep-rooted in American history and culture. An ode to the past, and music with a purpose. In a time when most new tunes are party-oriented (which isn’t a bad thing), it still a welcome departure into what the deeper implications and possibilities of melody and harmony can be.
