Just Seven Months After Open-Heart Surgery Lost Desert is Back on All Day I Dream

Following an open-heart surgery procedure just seven months ago, Lost Desert makes his highly celebrated return to the All Day I Dream imprint to release Lost Desert & Friends III, the third installment of the iconic EP series. The four track EP features collaborations with label head Lee Burridge, Junior Akwety, and Madraas and Sofiya Nzau, before Lost Desert closes the body of work with a very special solo composition.

At the end of 2022, Lost Desert was forced to put music on hold in order to address some serious health challenges, and underwent an open-heart surgery procedure. There were many challenging moments during Lost Desert’s recovery process back to good health, without much clarity if and when he would be able to resume his lifelong passion of writing, recording, and performing music. There were a few ideas for tracks that Lost Desert had started to formulate before the surgery which he feared he may never have the time or strength to complete. However, with the support of his friends, Lost Desert has made a truly spectacular recovery, finishing those track ideas into the body of work that is now Lost Desert & Friends III.

The opening track, a collaboration with Lee Burridge titled ‘My Time With You’, is an ode to the friendship between the two artists. Lost Desert reflects: “The endless support from Lee throughout my career and while recovering from surgery has been amazing, and the years we’ve spent together have been life changing.”

A standout track is ‘Mwinda’ with vocals from Junior Akwety. The track begins with an entrancing groove by way of percussion, setting the tone for the sensational rhythm that follows. As the track progresses, vibrant synths enter the mix, adding uplifting energy to the composition. Junior’s incredible vocal performance enhances Lost Desert’s masterfully crafted soundscape, incorporating another element of soulfulness into the composition.

The third offering from the EP, ‘Dwokire’, is a collaboration between Lost Desert and Madraas, with original vocals from Sofiya Nzau. The track’s introduction features stripped down percussion, before melodic elements are brought in, giving gentle life to the track. Around the five minute mark, there is an unforgettable moment where energy floods into the track, and the euphoria that it brings is present until the last note.

The EP closes with its only solo composition. ‘Liebe Dich’ is a beautiful eight minute track, its optimism shining throughout. There is an extended introduction with bare percussion, before the track’s melodic elements are introduced alongside a calming wave of euphoria. The track’s outro is a perfect ending to the EP; rather than easing the listener back down to level zero, Lost Desert sends us off riding an ethereal high.

The context behind the track’s conception explains the strong emotion it radiates. Lost Desert reflects: “‘Liebe Dich’ was one of the first tracks I made after my surgery. In the studio recording this song was one of the first times I felt happy and motivated again. The timing of this record is crazy, wonderful, and blessed.”

Not only is it remarkable that Lost Desert & Friends III is being released this soon following the surgery, but Lost Desert is already back on the road for a summer tour, performing at All Day I Dream World Tour 2023 events in Mykonos June 22, Ibiza July 13 and September 7, as well as Do Not Sit On The Furniture in Miami July 28. We are so glad to see Lost Desert back on All Day I Dream, and eagerly await his next release on the label!
