Hailing from Australia, and now based in Los Angeles, Jesse Neo is a 22-year-old singer, songwriter DJ and upcoming music technologist. Since 2017, he has been making headlines for his infectious electronic hits on the radio and performances in nightclubs. However, we just learned that he has been getting his toes into the technology world too with his new platform, Gemtracks.
“Back in 2017 after releasing several electronic songs I produced, I began getting contacts from record labels and YouTube channels inviting me to make beats for them,” Neo told us. “The requests were getting so much that I had to move to Los Angeles to be closer to the industry. Still, most of my days were spent being on the phone and sending attachments of my beats as sample.
“This then made me ask the question of why I can’t automate the entire process. The idea of creating an online website to showcase my beats and make them available for purchases was born.”
According to the singer, each beat can only be sold once, and the customer gets the full copyright ownership. This also means that the prices of the beats can be higher, reaching up to $599 for one sale.
“Soon, my producer friends that I met in the studio were catching up to this and showing interests of having their own websites,” Neo continued. “That was when they suggested I turn Gemtracks into a platform where they could also sell their own beats and make money.”
Feeling entrepreneurial, Neo took the advice. The idea proved to be beneficial as the number of customers and beat makers using the platform has been growing daily. Today, the team consists of several Grammy Award-winning producers and technology experts, some with PhDs.
“I find it so fascinating that people from completely unrelated fields can come together to work towards a common goal,” the singer added. “I guess this is the norm as the internet is taking over our lives and everything and everyone is getting online to stay connected.”
Just a browse through Gemtracks showed us a plentiful number of beats across all genres, from EDM, rock, to hip hop and pop. There are even some resources for musicians to get inspired from too, such as a blog and a database of different artists. The platform really has a bit of everything to make the artist journey easier.
When asked about the future of Gemtracks, Neo replied with a smile.
“Actually, there are plans to expand Gemtracks to offer more than just beats,” he revealed. “We are thinking of allowing people to make studio bookings too. This way, once an artist buys a beat, they can then easily find a studio close to them to record the vocals. This, however, is still in the early stages, and we are still working out the best way to implement it. There are more than this up our sleeves, of course, but you’ll just have to wait for what they are!”
