Jessie Andrews started her career modeling for American Apparel before turning into a jack of all trades. Currently, she has been focused on touring by DJ’ing and working on her music along side her jewelry company and various model jobs.
While most would discount her immediately for her modeling and other line of work, her music is extremely refreshing.
From her EP Usually Deep EP 1, stand out closing track “Get It” has a sinister bass line born in the roots of deep house.
Common with house music, you want to lock into a groove to keep people moving – swaying, tapping, and constantly feeling the beat.
It’s why the Chicago House scene blew up in the UK and all over the world because DJ’s could put you in another world and almost command the audience’s body.
The EP flows from front to back and can be stuck on repeat if need be.
The layered kick drum in the beginning is sprinkled with light arpeggios and a subtle “alarm”. As it grows, a clarinet picks up the off beat, and scattered claps create the build up.
When the bass line begins, it definitely isn’t what you expected. It’s dark, heavy, wet, and surprisingly crystal clear.
There’s a softness to the bounce, and it easily becomes the melody of the track despite being on the low end of the sound spectrum.
Uncharacteristically, the beauty of the melody is that it serves a dual purpose as the bass line. When Jessie works through the track, she can take away this heavy melody to easily pull parts in and sprinkle other light musical choices to create unique, subtle variation.
This allows the break down at the 3:00 mark to be refreshing and allows itself to build up for the final drive at the 4:00 mark thus creating itself a standout deep house track to be embedded in any mix.
