Artist Spotlight: Production with Personality by DOMii

In 2022, Berlin-based DJ, producer and label boss of her own label SNOE, Beth Lydi released her much acclaimed first LP ‘This is Love’ on Desert Hearts Records, and with that came the idea for a collaboration with Change the Beat for a remix contest.

Change the Beat (formerly #23by23) partners with record labels and assists them in discovering and signing female or gender non-conforming producers. It’s a campaign from Sydney Blu which was created with the help of DJ Rebekah and Native Instruments. From more than 30 competition entries 3 remixes were chosen as the top 3 and will now be released on the label as well.

Coming in hot with the third remix is DOMii. DOMii is making creative waves both stateside and all across the planet. Fresh off releases on Maison Fauna Records, Club Sweat, Brooklyn Fire Records, and Hau5trap, DOMii brings a distinct and raw style with her live performances and original music that is only matched by impressive technical aptitude. In other words, that “it factor.”

A figurehead in the South East music scene out of South Carolina, DOMii began “Housework CLT” an underground dance music party in collaboration with Nomad Talent and Girls Room a party celebrating queer women in music and art. In our recent interview Ariel shared more about Girls Room,

“Growing up as part of the LGBTQ+ community I knew that most cities lack safe spaces for lgbtq women. Spaces that cater to different styles of music and allow women to gather in a comfortable environment. I also knew that as an artist it was hard not to get pinned as the “girl DJ”. Once I had some experience in the nightlife industry and as promoter / artist I was at a place where I thought well if no one else is going to do it what is stopping me?

So I manifested the concept of putting queer women at the center of the party. It’s empowering in such a unique way and allows for us to showcase amazing music and artistic talent that otherwise might be looked over or stereotyped.”

Ariel has been getting after it for over 10 years and throughout her career has landed spots playing alongside big names such as Eli & Fur and Tiësto, at major music festivals such as Imagine Music Festival and for beloved party brands like Bluz Presents.
