2016 has been a meteoric year for Alex Pall and Drew Taggart. The Chainsmokers released anthems like ‘Don’t Let Me Down‘, ‘Closer‘ and ‘Setting Fires‘ that catapulted the electronic duo to fame. Not content to leave their success in 2016, The Chainsmokers have just dropped a new single, ‘Paris’.
For the past couple months, Taggart and Pall have been teasing fans with the impending new track. ‘Paris’ saw its debut back in December at a show at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Since then, fans have been scouring the internet for the new single.
The track was officially released this week and it’s safe to say that ‘Paris’ is a powerful start to 2017 for The Chainsmokers.
‘Paris’ features Taggart on vocals, which makes this their first track since ‘New York City‘ that does not feature female vocals. ‘Paris’ utilizes the same popcentric rhythm and beats as ‘Closer’ and the same relatable lyrics. Considering the stratospheric success of ‘Closer’, it’s no surprise that ‘Paris’ follows a similar model.
‘Paris’ becomes the lovechild of EDM and pop with its melodic vocals, acoustic guitar and mellow beats.
This nostalgic new single demonstrates the true depth and versatility of Taggart and Pall’s abilities as producers. The line between pop and electronic music is blurry at best. The Chainsmokers seem to have found the sweet spot between the two genres and flirt with the two genres with enviable skill and finesse.
If anyone ever listened to any of The Chainsmokers live sets (Coachella 2016 being one of my personal favorites), it’s hard to put two and two together. People would never guess that the producers with live sets that have such deep bass and intense drops could engineer melodic songs like ‘Paris’ and ‘Closer’. ‘Paris’ makes one truth about music very clear, all genres can be mixed together.
