Lorin Ashton, more commonly recognized as Bassnectar, has been off of the radar for some time, admittedly, to work on his next album. Well it seems that his drop may be right around the corner. After being announced for Summer Camp, EDC New York, Wakarusa, Paradiso, and The Hudson Music Project, Bassnectar has taken to his personal blog to give an update on where his mind has been at over the past few months and the progress he has made in the studio.
Lorin checks in to explain that he has been working with numerous vocalists, composers, guitarists, and producers to explore sounds all over the musical spectrum. Putting in 13 hours a day, 7 days a week, the baron of bass has been doing work on the decks. To unfinished songs that he began back in the early part of the decade to complete new sounds that delve back in to his original influences, Bassnectar notes that he has at least 26 new tracks that could be expected sooner than later. Even better news is that at least two of these tracks could be laid down even before summer.
Elaborating further on the sounds to expect, he notes:
I wanted to reach back into all the various corners of those influences (death metal & grindcore… gangster rap… classical… psychedelic rock… techno/ambient… IDM/glitch… downtempo… trip-hop… breakbeat… trance… every vein of electronic music… folk music… big band… jazz…. acid jazz… mushroom jazz… etc etc etc) and I wanted to play the field, like a human pinball bouncing off all the extreme ends and complicated dimensions of my own musical tastes. I wanted to create an album full of music I love. I wanted to have fun, play games, tell jokes. I wanted to make insane bangers, and also to explore deep sonic journeys… and everything in between.
Having worked with over 50 unique artists in 10 studios across 6 different cities, you know that we are in for a treat. Get ready for some heady bass in your face.
