Steve Aoki and Aloe Blacc returned this week to bless the EDM community with their new year’s hit “My Way“. This is the first known collaboration between the two, and it most definitely exceeds all expectations. Aoki is the kind of DJ who constantly delivers fresh new material for his fans, and this new track is exactly what they needed. He was lucky enough to get one of the best voices in music, Aloe Blacc, to join him on this piece, and with a voice like his, you can expect a song that is nothing short of spectacular.
“My Way” is arguably some of Aoki’s best work yet, with a sound that takes you back to the early 2010s. Aloe is no stranger to being featured on EDM songs and has worked with some other massive DJs like Tiesto, Avicii, and David Guetta.
The song talks about how no matter what others tell you, live your life the way you want to live it. A lyric that really stands out in the song is “Cause the fear gives me life, and I swear ’til I die I’m gonna do it my way.” So many of us live a life-based in fear, but it’s what makes us human and what keeps us grounded as people. Fear is a necessary evil that gets looked over so often in music, and it’s great to see these two men touch on a topic that is close to home for so many.
Despite the slow pace of last year, both Aloe and Steve put out large projects. In October, Blacc released his fifth studio album, All Love Everything via BMG records. He truly has one of the most soulful voices of our generation and a uniqueness that is few are far between in artists. In April, Steve dropped his sixth studio album, Neon Future IV, which, like his other albums, delivers at the highest level. The music industry is set for a comeback this year, and you can expect these two men to be leading the charge.
