Unless you’ve been living under a rock somewhere, you would know that Porter Robinson and Madeon have been on their Shelter Live Tour around the US. Porter and Madeon played two shows in New York, both at Madison Square Garden.
One great thing about EDM shows, like the Live Shelter Tour, is that you can mingle with other people who genuinely love the music. They don’t come out to shows to get wasted, because they truly love EDM music and culture.
I LOVE Porter. When people ask why, all I can really tell them is that his music touches your soul. You have to see him live and seeing the Shelter Live Tour was a magical experience. Robotaki and Danger warmed up the crowd before Porter and Madeon. When 10:15 came, the crowd exploded. All the lights went down and Porter opened with his signature single-note synth sound synchronized with lights that turned into the opener, “Shelter”.
Both Porter and Madeon performed live with instruments and vocals throughout the show.
The two played through some of Porter’s best known songs including Sad Machine, Flicker, Divinity and Language. They moved between the electro-house, synth-pop sounds and wobbling dubstep (Porter’s original roots). Everything was on point, the lights, animations, the music, the crowd and the good vibes.

The encore was indescribable. Porter and Madeon closed by coming back to “Shelter” and everyone was stunned.
I honestly could not imagine a better way to end the night. The encore began innocuously enough with Madeon’s live vocals and Porter live on the keyboard. It was beautiful, the crowd was singing along and I was actually holding my hands over my heart. But Porter and Madeon couldn’t close on a soft note. “Shelter” morphed into “Language” with insane visuals, high-powered energy, confetti and everyone jumping. In a word, perfection.
Of course the night didn’t end at 11:30, this is the city that never sleeps remember? Most Porter fans moved from Madison Square Garden to the official after party at Webster Hall. Anamanaguchi played before Porter and Madeon’s after party DJ set and Alex English, Dali and Hiyawatha closed.
