Even though Norway isn’t anywhere near the tropics, the country is slowly becoming known for tropical house music. As Norwegian tropical house producer Matoma continues to gain worldwide recognition with his music, the country continues to become closer and closer to being associated with beach parties in the sun and the sand.
As Matoma continues to release potent blend of tropical house, we only expect that trend to continue.
Matoma‘s been up to some new things as well, releasing his first music video with a tropical house remix of The Notorious B.I.G. ft. Ja Rule and Ralph Tresvant’s classic track, ‘Old Thing Back’. Matoma’s remix of ‘Old Thing Back’ stays true to a clean tropical house vibe.
Lighthearted and danceable, upbeat chords softly pluck as flowing synth leads and occasional piano lines float their way through the track.
It sounds like the tropics.
If you’re a fan of the original track, you’ll be surprised to find that Matoma left the vocals largely intact and in their original form. The vocals are as clean, crisp, and memorable as they were when the song was first released in 2007, and it’s a song that will stick in your head after first listen.
Not stopping at the sound alone, the song isn’t the only thing that’s about ‘Old Thing Back’ that’s tropical. The video for ‘Old Thing Back’ gets its fair share of the ‘fun in the sun’ tropical treatment as well. Set in the Wynwood Art District of the tropical house epicenter of Miami, the ‘Old Thing Back’ video gives off a summertime vibe like few others do. It looks like a perfect summer day without a care in the world, and it’s only fitting for the smooth vibes of Matoma’s music.
