New York Music Festival to Attend While in College

Every summer is festive in New York, and music lovers are in luck as things start to heat up fast. For students, these music festivals will give you your money’s worth and guarantee a great time.

 

  • Governors Ball Music Festival

Started ten years ago, the Governor’s ball is one of the biggest music festivals in New York. The festival was built by New Yorkers for New Yorkers and is always evolving to exceed the attendee’s expectations. Spread across four stages, the festival has more than forty artists performing and hosts over 150 thousand people in Randall’s Island. In 2011, the Governors Ball is said to have had the highest attendance than any event in the history of Governors Island. Music styles include rock, pop, folk, hip-hop, electronic, and more. Founders Entertainment produces the festival.

  • The New Yolk International music festival

Any young musician in the making must attend this festival. The aim is providing young musicians the opportunity to grow through a musical adventure of a lifetime. You must audition to participate either with your high school group or university ensemble. Getting admitted is like joining an ivy league university like Columbia. It’s hard, but it’s possible. Like reading and meeting Columbia admission tips, your team will have to practice day and night to be good enough for admission. The same way you must take and submit high SATs, nail your personal statement, and understand the Columbia interview process. Meeting the requirements is the only way to get admitted on both accounts.

  • Harlem Week

In its 44th year, the NYC Harlem week has a series of more than 100 cultural events celebrating African-American, European, Hispanic, Harlem’s Africa, and Caribbean history. The festival is held from the end of July to August, incorporating film festivals, fashion shows, a 5k run, street fairs, delicious food, and much more to accompany the great music. Harlem week has more than two million visitors from across the globe who come to enjoy gospel, R&B, pop, and other music genres.

  • Lake George Music Festival

Lake George is known for its picture-perfect sceneries, but during this festival, these spectacular background serves as the perfect background for great music. The Lake George Music Festival runs for 12 days of orchestra music performed by professionals and students from around the globe. The Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra are some of the best-known performers you should expect. Shows are held in various locations, including a historic church, aboard the Minne-Ha-Ha boat, and amphitheaters. One of the most enjoyable events is the “Sound of Our Time” where the Orchestra plays with an indie rock or EDM musician. If you appreciate classical music, this is the event for you.
