Mary Droppinz Sparks the Dancefloor with a Progressive Record on Zeds Dead’s Imprint, Altered States

‘No stranger to lighting up the dancefloor, Mary Droppinz has become a rising star in the dance music space since her debut- with bass-laden DJ sets and releases that are heavily inspired by the UK electronic scene. Known for delivering a unique blend of genres throughout her discography, she quickly has become recognized as a modern trailblazer in bringing a new era of electronic music into the American market.

The eclectic producer and tastemaker returns to Zeds Dead’s esteemed Altered States label with her latest release, Ignite’. Out July 13th, the electrifying new single delivers a serendipitous blend of electro, breaks, and UK Bass. Staple elements from each genre work together to create a high-energy dance track that is sure to hit the charts around the globe.

When creating the single, Mary Droppinz got special permission from label-owner Zeds Dead and Subtronics to create an original from their hit track, ‘Gassed Up. The track serves as a testament to her boundary-breaking discography with heavy-hitting one-shots, dramatic buildups, and electro-powered synths. Vocals from the grime MC Flowdan layered on top of breakbeat-inspired drums keep listeners ‘gassed up’ throughout the entirety of the track.

When discussing the background of the project, Droppinz touches upon the privilege to be able to reimagine the track for the Altered States label,

“It’s such an honor to put my own touch on this legendary track from Zeds Dead and Subtronics, I was especially drawn to the iconic vocals from Flowdan. My intention for this track was to slow down the original and turn it into a heavy hitter that could be played out in the house and techno world.”

Mary Droppinz’s fascination with rhythm began when growing up in her native Omaha, Nebraska as a result of her father’s seasoned skills as a drummer. She quickly started on the piano and carried that musical influence to her current home of Southern California- where she went to production school at IO Academy and worked as a marketing manager for Native Instruments. Since then, she has become one of the strongest selectors from Southern California- playing venues such as Coachella, Red Rocks, Club Space, Amnesia Ibiza, Lightning in a Bottle, Greek Theater Berkeley, Elsewhere NYC, Brooklyn Mirage, EDC Las Vegas, Seismic, Desert Hearts, and a residency at Discopussy in Las Vegas.

The Southern California-based artist’s production is just as versatile as her DJ sets and just as successful. Her most recent single, ‘Sandmanwas the first electro track ever to be released on Repopulate Mars and landed the #1 position on Beatport’s Electro (Classic / Detroit / Modern) chart– where it has maintained a top three position for the last four months since its release. The track was also featured on Beatport’s 2023 Festival Essentials and Best New Breaks/UK Bass charts. Over the last couple of years since her debut, her Spotify has boasted a total of 300k listeners with over 800k streams on the platform alone.

With an armory of trendsetting releases under her belt, Mary Droppinz shows no sign of slowing down. Ignite’ showcases her significant talent in bridging the communities of house, techno, and bass, whilst also paying homage to the underground. It is no doubt that 2023 will bring more success for Mary and subsequently will project her one-of-a-kind sound into the global dance music landscape.
