Following the release of remix tracks ‘Like It’ and ‘This 1 Thing’ earlier this year, comes the first official single ‘Lightyears’ from the fiercely talented Ghanaian-Australia sibling pair, Kinder. Teaming up with UK producer BCBC, ‘Lightyears’ is the cannon firing that signifies Briony and Savannah Osei’s new chapter, with the track taking us on a crash course on what it means to be in the moment and leave your woes at the door. ‘Lightyears’ is out today via Warner Music.
With a bit of experimentation and a whole lot of love, the dynamic duo has created a fresh tune that has pushed their sound into some killer new territory, showcasing their DJ and club music roots. The sisters, producers, and vocalists claim that ‘Lightyears’, produced with London’s BCBC, is one of their favorite tracks they’ve ever written. Anchored by an authentic desire to share, this latest iteration of Kinder will make you feel, as much as it makes you dance.
“To us, it’s just about being in the present and having gratitude for that moment. Not future tripping and just taking things one day at a time. BCBC’s production is immediate and fun, we love how it just doesn’t hold back, he has really gone for it, kind of symbolic of the song’s meaning, don’t hold back or think about tomorrow – just experience it and go all in.”, says Kinder of the song.
2022 saw their four-track EP Yenko bridge the gap between Kinder as artists, and Sav and Briony as people, through their music- allowing the pair to share and celebrate the depth of their Ghanaian heritage with the world. Led by singles ‘Come Along (feat. A.GIRL)’, ‘Rasta (feat. Gold Fang)’, and ‘Bus Stop’– these songs took them from clubs to festival stages. Their liberating follow-up EP Akwaaba, which featured the celebratory ‘Keep Up’, saw them find their feet experimenting with primal club music and deeper lyrical themes, having produced the project at Jono Ma’s studio in Byron Bay alongside Jonti Danilewitz.
Known for incorporating live guitar, piano, and original vocals across their production and live shows- the duo has since taken the Australian dance music scene by storm, hustling for a series of stellar wins including their unforgettable triple j Like A Version of Nelly Furtado’s ‘Say It Right’, DJing the Vogue x Barbie event, performing at the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix, and delivering official remixes for Stevan and Budjerah. They also have supported some of dance music’s staple acts such as the likes of Rita Ora, Marshmello, Crooked Colours, RL Grime, Big Freedia, to Elderbrook, alongside playing some of Australia’s biggest festivals such as Splendour In The Grass, Dark Mofo, Spilt Milk, Listen Out, and many more.
