Today, rising Scottish singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist ONR (pronounced “honor”) and Sarah Barthel of Phantogram welcome the aptly named ‘Better Daze’ remix of their recent hit “Must Stop” from Bristolian producer duo Icarus. The remix arrives a month after ONR dropped the original track alongside the accompanying music video drenched in 90’s aesthetic, and sees Icarus transform the anthemic alt-pop number into a retro dance floor heater.
On the remix, ONR comments — “When I first heard the Icarus Better Daze Mix, I instantly loved it. It gave the song a completely new and different life, a different energy and direction. It’s wonderful.”
Reminiscent of being pulled deep into a daydream, ‘Must Stop’ gave the Icarus brothers flashbacks of days better spent in the depths of dancefloor’s past. Their rendition gives listeners the tools to slip into another dimension, while an accompanying hypnotic choral refrain helps guide them through each twist and turn. At a time in which the pandemic has disrupted the club scene and affected the lives of so many musicians and music industry professionals, the remix serves as a touch of nostalgia to days-gone-by, as well as a reminder of the ‘Better Daze’ to come.
‘Must Stop’ is the latest in a string of recent ONR singles. From the fiery ‘Kill TV’, featuring Nile Rodgers; synth-heavy ‘Sober’, with Carina Jade; and ‘Human Enough’, 2020 has witnessed ONR show off an impressively varied approach to pop, borrowing the best bits across eras and styles to create something completely unique. His full-length debut arrives early next year, and all signs point to it being something special.
Icarus shared a long journey through the outer realms of electronic music before signing to Pete Tong’s iconic FFRR imprint in 2015. With hits including ‘October’ and ‘King Kong’, the brothers embarked on a sharp ascent through the ranks of UK dance music, garnering over 60 million streams and 7x Hottest Records on BBC Radio 1 over the course of their careers.
Moving away from single releases in 2018 with their five-track EP In The Dark, Icarus continued to grow and develop in their artistry, with 2019’s concept project This Must Be The Place receiving critical acclaim. While their 2020 LIVE UK tour saw wide-cancellations due to the pandemic, the year also welcomed Unfold, a nine-track heater and their biggest and most important project to date.
