Making the transition from the EDM world into mainstream radio is an extremely underrated accomplishment. While many believe it is just a form of “selling out”, it truly showcases your ability to make your music appeal to a larger audience while maintaining artistic integrity.
Originally known for taking indie songs and adding a progressive vibe to them, The Chainsmokers saw commercial success after the sardonic electro house song, “#Selfie”.
While it certainly made for good laughs and great memes, many didn’t expect The Chainsmokers to go far with their career, especially after being bashed by many DJs for appearing on American Idol and “performing” their hit song. A year later, you can’t go on a car ride without hearing at least one of their songs on the radio.
“Roses” has been certified double platinum by the RIAA and their follow-up single “Don’t Let Me Down” featuring American singer Daya, is on its way to platinum as we speak.
With both of these tracks in the Billboard Hot 100 and being commercially successful week in and week out, it has shown that The Chainsmokers have no plans of slowing down in 2016.
Their 2016 Ultra Music Festival was by far one of the most diverse sets of the whole weekend.
While their biggest songs certainly have radio appeal, their sets are anything but. Their 2014 set at Ultra Music Festival was at Stage 7 and was mostly progressive house and big room, but their 2016 set was at a peak time at the Worldwide Stage. They perfectly balanced heavy tracks with melodic ones playing everything from trap, future bass, dubstep, and of course their staple songs we love.
A month ago, they released “Inside Out” featuring Swedish singer Charlee which has also seen positive reviews and will surely hit mainstream radio in the months to come. It would not be surprising to hear of an album in the works and I’m sure we will all be very excited to see how these two producers progress through stardom.
