MusicPsytrance happens to be one of the less popularized sub-genres of electronic dance music.
Main-stage regulars Carnage and Timmy Trumpet sought to change that with their new collaboration “PSY or DIE”.
While the track won’t officially hit streaming services like Spotify until July 18th, it has already surfaced on Soundcloud. “PSY or DIE” is definitely an interesting tune on its own, and it is even more intriguing that the song came from these two artists.
Neither Carnage nor Timmy Trumpet are particularly known for straying away from the main-stage sound that defines their original tracks such as “Signal” or “Freaks”, respectively. That is definitely the case with this new track, as it is pretty easy to see the influence of each act on the song.
The psytrance influence is fairly apparent with the throbbing, low bass line, glitchy sitar sample, and trippy vocals. Particularly, the influence of the unique sub-genre shines through after the final build-up, with the song breaking out into the intense hook.
Even so, the main-stage hardstyle and big room sound championed by Carnage seems to peek through on the track.
As for the over-the-top beat drops, we can probably thank Timmy Trumpet.
Dance music elitists might find the new track to be less psychedelic trance, and more or less the usual from these two popular acts. Still, it’s worth noting that this is something refreshing for the mainstream scene.
The track has already seen a lot of support during sets, from artists such as Armin Van Buuren and Blasterjaxx.
We can expect to see it take over more sets as the summer continues on, with its official release coming in about a week.
