Despite his ‘lifetime ban’ from the show, Calvin Harris is reportedly signing on to the next season of The X Factor to be a judge.
The EDM scene has rapidly exploded into the mainstream music scene. Nobody has transitioned into the fame and spotlight quite like Calvin Harris.
In 2011 Harris was the opener for Rihanna during the European leg of her “Loud” tour. Fast-forward five years later and the two are collecting VMAs for their top-charting single “This Is What You Came For.”
Harris’ star continues to rise as he is reportedly joining NBC’s “The X-Factor” as soon as next season. Harris would be adding his name to a list of judges that include Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, L.A. Reid, Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, and Kelly Rowland.
Cowell must have put their 2009 incident behind him, as Cowell slapped a lifetime ban on Calvin Harris when he crashed the stage with a pineapple during a Jedward performance. The feud carried as Cowell claimed Harris did it for “shameless self promotion”, with Harris responding strongly by saying, “I was just inspired to make a mockery of the show. It is a joke and I think it should be treated as such.”
The two have clearly buried the hatch as Harris has had his lifetime ban lifted. Cowell understands how immensely popular Harris has become since then. and how he would possibly bring in a whole new demographic of viewers who haven’t bothered tuning into the show before. Hopefully Harris still has the time to make hit songs as he serves as a talent show judge.
