Sit back with Galimatias and Alina Baraz’ unbelievably chilled-out track, “Maybe”.
From their collaborative project, Urban Flora, “Maybe” is a smooth chiller of a track that’s sure to spur daydreams to take flight.
The 2 artists connected under interesting circumstances, considering that Galimatias and Baraz are from Denmark and America, respectively.
The 21 year-old Baraz wrote and recorded lyrics over Galimatias’ track, “Drift”, and once he heard her version their working relationship was born. As for the collaborative album, Urban Flora, it’s a deep foray into a dreamy-yet-charged lounge sound that’s as smooth as it is deceptively dark.
“Maybe” begins at an slow tempo and sets Baraz’ vocals at the forefront to drive the song. With Galimatias providing accompaniment, the beat features sparse percussion, slow piano, and plenty of effects to paint a spaced-out atmosphere for listeners to groove to.
As the song progresses, Galimatias brings about syncopated rhythms, warped synths, and sedated bass growls to lead the procession. Throwing heavy effects on Baraz’ vocals, Galamatias conjures up reminiscences of Skream’s “Under the City Lights” with Baraz’ dreamy but tranquilized feeling in the second verse. In a unique collaboration, Galimatias and Alina Baraz created something special with “Maybe”
