Now, fresh from the release of his track ‘Next To You’, featuring the vocalist Dani King, Cyazon is here to share an exclusive look into the processes and inspirations behind the release, giving us an insider’s look into his creativity.
Hello Cyazon, how are you?
Hello, doing good thank you.
What were the major influences and inspirations behind your new track, ‘Next To You’?
At the time when I wrote this track in December 2022/January 2023, I wanted to create the best Melodic Dubstep track I could. Some Artists that inspired me at the time while creating this were Seven Lions and Au5.
Which elements of the track did you focus on in order to create its euphoric energy?
The main elements I focused on were the supersaw chords and the synth lead. Having the long reverb on both of these elements helps to create that euphoric energy.
The track features the vocalist, Dani King, can you tell us about this? How did her work on the track come about?
When finding the right vocalist for this, after I finished the instrumental version of the track in January 2023, I thought Dani King would be the right fit. I was researching online which vocalist I thought would best fit based on their vocal tone and, naturally, it felt right for me to reach out to her to work on this track. We worked together on something else about 5 years ago as well.
When it came to producing the track, how did you start? Did your workflow differ at all from your usual process?
When I produced this track, the workflow was very typical of how I usually produce. For the most part, I start the track with the intro and work from the beginning to the end of the track. I remember starting with an atmosphere sound I made and then creating the melodies around the atmosphere sound. Afterwards, the chord progression came about, I chose the right bass sounds and extra effect sounds, and the track was completed.
The track guides through intense, built-up choruses, to dreamy sonic moments. Can you tell us about how you approached structuring the track, creating such an enthralling musical journey for listeners to enjoy?
I approached structuring the track by filtering out certain melodies during the pre-chorus, as well as taking out certain melodies during the buildup pre-choruses – I think that really helps to create contrast in the track. Then I bought back the full spectrum of sound during the drops to create a euphoric moment for the listeners.
Which elements of the track do you think are most important to creating its overall energy?
The main elements that I believe help create the overall energy are the synth pluck in the intros and breakdowns of the track, the main spacious synth lead, and the supersaw chords during the drops.
How do you think this track showcases your skills and unique sound as a Producer?
I believe this track showcases my skills and unique sound by keeping the 80s/synthwave sound with the melodic elements, as well as having cyberpunk/futuristic sounds during the drops.
Which plugins and effects did you use most when producing the track?
The plugins and effects I used the most for this track are the Valhalla Vintageverb for the spacious reverb on the melodic elements, Serum for the basses, Pro-Q 3 for EQing, and Soothe2 for cleanup of the sounds during the mixing process.
Can you share with us your upcoming plans? What’s next for Cyazon?
I have an upcoming EP being released in February and have a lot of collaborations with vocalists coming out this year as well.
Having gained an insight into Cyazon’s approach to music production, we cannot wait to hear what is next to come in his already thrilling musical journey. No doubt a Producer to keep an eye on, Cyazon remains a talent not to be missed, so be sure to keep up-to-date with him by following him across social media.
