10 Reasons Why You Should Dress Up at Your Next EDM Festival

Modern society places so much importance on how you look and act.

Day after day, we’re placed under a societal microscope where we are judged for our every move; but that’s not the case in EDM culture.

A festival may be one of the only places on this planet where you can come as you are and be loved for it. Instead of just rolling out of bed and coming in your pajamas (which would be completely okay with us), take a gander at our top 10 reasons why you should go all out on your next EDM festival fit.

…because sometimes less really is more.

Let’s face it: electronic music has some of the hottest fans, and lucky for us, those fans like show it off. With itsy bitsy bikinis and lavish lingerie get-ups, our ladies like to show it off for the music they love, and we’re not complaining.

…because it’s Halloween all year long.

Themed event or not, we can transform into whatever the heck we want, because once we pass through those gates, we’re in fantasy-land. We welcome anyone and anything, whether you come as you are or something you want to be.

…because you can be whatever animal you want to be.

Spirit hoods are all the rage. Whether yours is LED-infused, rainbow-colored, or alarmingly animal-like, we accept trendy, furry headgear of all kinds. Hint: these furry accessories are both fashionable and functional for our northern fans.

…because we make our own jewelry here.

Some would call kandi the superglue that holds our people together. Bracelets made of brightly colored beads with creative, custom designs are called kandi, and  are exchanged between electronic music lovers across the world to signify friendship, lasting bonds, endless memories, and PLUR. What would your festival get-up be without a few strands of kandi?

…because rainbow colors no longer label your sexual preference.

Rainbow is the new black, at least in the electronic music community. The more colors, the better! Many believe that the combined colors of the rainbow conclude ones sexual preference, but in actuality, the colors of the rainbow are more widely used to display signs of diversity, inclusiveness, hope, and yearning. Aren’t those characteristics encompassed in our popular term ‘PLUR’?

…because tutus are no longer just for ballet.

Created by Russian ballet masters, tutus were worn so the footwork of their ballerinas could be seen more easily by performance attendees. Allowing greater mobility for dancers, the “powder puff” tutu allows the entire leg to be seen (as opposed to the more contemporary calf-length tutu).  Now, this trend has taken a modern turn toward the rave culture and is helping us show off our fancy footwork, and bodacious rave bottoms.

…because there is no such thing as too many accessories.

In electronic dance music culture, one can never over-accessorize. At festivals, raves, and shows, we encourage all accessories. Consider it a game to see how many accessories you can wear in just one night!

…because we made fanny packs cool again.

Fanny pack, waist wallet, belly bag, or whatever you want to call it — these things are rad.  They may be considered to many as a not-so-stylish artifact from the past, but EDM fans are utilizing this functional accessory in all the hottest colors and designs.  And it’s not just the rave culture that’s catching on. Vogue brought the “fanny pack” back into its issues back in 2011, now dubbing it as “hands-free bags” and “belted satchels”, but we know a fanny pack when we see one.

…because you spent a good chunk of change for these threads.

Getting the hottest festival-wear isn’t a quick or cheap process. It takes time, research, and lots of moolah. While popular festival clothing websites like iheartraves, Raver Swag, and Rave Ready offer up some pretty gnarly sales and clearance promotions, there’s still a lot we’ve got to purchase, and it adds up fast. If you’re spending all that time and money carefully selecting the perfect festival outfit, you better be using even more of your time showing it off.

…because where else are you going to wear this stuff?

Seriously! Where else can you wear this stuff? Electronic music festivals and shows are some of the only nonjudgmental, come-as-you-are, we-accept-everyone, PLUR events on the planet. Go ahead and throw on some experimental pieces from your wonderland wardrobe. Escape everyday life, follow us into fantasy land, and look good doing it.
