Peter Attia bio

Peter Attia is a Canadian-American physician with a Stanford MD, whose medical practice specializes in the science of longevity. He is the founder of Attia Medical, PC. He has spent five years at the Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore and has worked with National Cancer Institute and McKinsey & Company in their “Corporate Risk Practice and Healthcare Practice” division.

What is his podcast about?

“The Peter Attia Drive” is the podcast hosted by Attia, where he interviews and enters deep discussions with several prominent medical professionals. The episodes focus on a variety of topics, including longevity, cancer, mental health, and several others, to spread awareness about increasing health-span.

Famous episodes

Episode #47, 48, and 49 on Sleep, with Matthew Walker (April 1, 2019): Sleep is one of the most rudimentary hygiene steps that many of us fail to follow. “Lack of sleep is like a broken water pipe in your home. It will leak down into every nook and cranny of your physiology”, says Walker.

In the first episode, UC Berkeley neuroscience professor and sleep expert, Matthew Walker, describes the stages of sleep, their effect on memory, and the dangers of sleep deprivation. The second episode deals with how sleep deprivation links to cancer and sexual dysfunction, and the third episode talks about the effect of caffeine, THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), and alcohol on sleep.

Episode #59 on Fasting, with Jason Fung (June 24, 2019): “We think of all these responses, obesity, insulin resistance, and the beta-cell failure, as pathologic. They’re actually protective,” claims Dr. Fung, and surely that unintuitive statement has caught your attention.

Nephrologist Jason Fung has treated thousands of overweight and diabetic patients, and this has given him a lot of information on metabolic diseases. Attia and Fung discuss the differences in types of fasting: time-restricted feeding, intermittent fasting, and dietary restriction and their effect on fighting against the root causes of obesity and T2D. Dr. Fung also argues that excess insulin is often the underlying problem of such diseases.

The episodes featuring David Epstein on ways to improve long-term performance and learning and the episode with Ryan Holiday on strategies to develop stillness and deal with anger, jealousy, and envy are also among the other most-viewed episodes.

What do people think?

Attia’s podcast appeals to the viewers thanks to the wealth of information it provides directly from proficient doctors and experts. The content, interviews, and discussions are detailed enough to cover all the medical aspects but are presented in a manner that anyone can understand.

Monday Morning Podcast

Who is Bill Burr?

Burr is an American stand-up comedian, actor, and podcaster who has acted in movies, TV shows and has also featured in video games. He is one of the founders of the content creation studio All Things Comedy. From May 2007, Burr has been hosting his comedy news show, Monday Morning Podcast, twice a week (Mondays and Thursdays), and in October 2019, along with Bert Kreischer, Burr started a new podcast called the Bill Bert Podcast.

In November 2018, Bill Burr teamed up with American comedian and podcaster Joe Derosa to make a new show called Uninformed. The tagline was “No reading. No research. Just strong opinions”. Ultimately, the show was dropped after just twelve episodes.

Burr’s podcast content

Monday Morning Podcast episodes are one-hour long, and Burr typically talks about his experiences, current events, sports and also answers audience questions and gives them advice. Occasionally, his wife joins in on the show, and there are other guest celebrities and comedians in other episodes. From March 2015, Burr has been releasing a second weekly podcast: Thursday Afternoon Monday Morning Podcast, which contains 30 minutes of new material and one hour of past recordings.

Burr’s narrative is often off-the-cuff, and he’s been called “the undisputed heavyweight champ of rage-fueled humor” by Rolling Stone Magazine. Burr likes to be seen as “that loud guy in the bar with uninformed logic” since most of his opinions are not based on reliable information sources. But this attitude of his is one of the factors that made his famous and popular.

Audience reception

The Bill Burr podcast has garnered mostly positive reviews over the years, with fans praising Burr’s candid commentary and informative insights. The episodes which feature his wife have received mixed reviews, with some lauding the chemistry between them while others criticize her for lowering the standard. As far as the numbers go, Burr’s podcast has over 140,000 followers on SoundCloud.

A glimpse of some episodes

Although it is categorized as a news podcast, Burr talks, rants, and rambles about many other topics in his show, like making your bed, being a parent, the Oscars, the Super Bowl, and so on. The episode where “Bill rambles about the NFL caring, moving your head, and shoplifting” is said to be one of the finest when it comes to his ranting. “Bill rambles about the digging up the dead, taping a special, and burping at the gym” is one that showed his fans that he doesn’t necessarily agree with them all the time and can argue back fiercely too.
