This past weekend thousands of “Splashers” flocked to Palm Springs for Splash House 2019. The bi-yearly event is a favorite for many simply because of the retro vibes that come with Palm Springs. Splash House takes over The Renaissance, Saguaro, and The Riviera for the weekend hosting house music filled pool parties at each hotel. Once the pools close at 8pm, it’s time for After Hours at the Palm Springs Air Museum, one of our favorite summertime events. Here’s why:
The Breeze & Open View
The location of the air museum is perfect because the openness of the desert around it creating the perfect breeze to cool you off after the heat of the pools all day. The open view of it’s neighbor, Palm Springs International Airport, is beautiful, and not at all a distraction. With it being a smaller airport, there are only a few planes you’ll see take off or land, it’s a pretty cool thing to see while looking at a massive Douglas C-47/DC-3 Skytrain airplane as a stage.
The Planes
The venue is perfectly arranged; seeing the vintage planes under bistro lights surrounded by glowing smiles truly sets a tone. Each one of the planes beautifully lit with colorful lights, VIP and bars near the hangars gives you the chance to check out the planes that aren’t out in the open.
The Music
After tasty beats from Fisher and The Black Madonna last year, we knew this year would be a treat! We were blessed with outstanding performances by Sohmi, Kimiaz, Phantoms, Walker & Royce, and Hot Since 82 on Friday night; and Michi, Jessie Calistri, Enzo Muro, a house set from Diplo, and Mark Knight. The bumpin’ tunes had the whole crowd happily bouncing and dancing around til the very last beat.
The Vibe
The vibe is nothing short of complete awesomeness, the happy-go-lucky crowd is so much fun to dance around with and meet new friends. Everyone’s enthralled by the amazing the amazing energy, retro outfits, and beautiful colors. The bistro lights and planes create a vintage like atmosphere to groove in, where you feel like you aren’t in 2019 anymore, almost like a fun-filled vintage tech-house/disco dream.
