Bijou joins our journey to Phoenix Lights with an exclusive interview. As Phoenix Lights comes closer to date, our preparation for the exuberant festival continues.
For those unfamiliar with the G-House artist, he has recently received a vast amount of triumph through his collaboration, ‘Hello’, with other G-House supreme, Dr. Fresch. Prior to his new fame, he was a local celeb in the Phoenix area, spinning for some of the most populated venues in the city.
Check out our exclusive interview with Bijou below:
Q: What was it like working with other G-House mastermind, Dr. Fresch, on the banger ‘Hello’? Do you have any other collab bangers in store for us in the near future- possibly something to be debuted at Phoenix Lights?
A. It was an amazing experience working with Dr. Fresch. He’s a great guy and we definitely have something in the works currently. Phoenix Lights may just get the debut for that one.
Take a listen to Dr. Fresch and Bijou’s track ‘Hello’ below:
Q: What is it like performing back in your home state of Arizona?
A. I love performing back home in Arizona. Playing all over the country is amazing and I’m thankful that I’m having the opportunity to do so, but coming home is a different monster. I’m back in my own realm and nothing can compare.
Q: If you didn’t pursue DJing and producing what would’ve been an alternative profession for you?
A: I would have gone one of two directions. Either I would have continued my baseball career professionally or ended up in law school. I had a strong love for law and had a passion to be a defense attorney, but obviously that had changed.
Q: What surprised you most about the industry?
A: This is actually a great question, I always thought the industry was so cut throat and everyone was out to get each other. But as I got deeper and deeper I saw the true colors of a lot of people and have been fortunate to see how accepting people really are in this industry.
Q: Besides House music, what are some of your other favorite genres/subgenres? What are some subgenres that you would like to experiment with?
A: I listen to a ton of hip hop and R&B. So that’s mainly what has been really influential in my music as of late. I’m currently in the works on something that’s a completely separate project that’s super underground. Think Art Department, Cajmere, but stay tuned for that.
Q: Have you ever attended any of the festivals you’ve performed at?
A: Surprisingly no, I haven’t really gone to that many festivals so the ones upcoming this summer are all new to me.
Q: What has been one of your greatest musical accomplishments this past year?
A: For me it was getting an agent & playing some major festivals that I never thought I would have the opportunity to play.
Q: Do you still fan-boy when meeting other successful artists/celebs? Any scenarios you would like to share?
A: Ha ha this is a good one, I wouldn’t say that I fan-boy, but I definitely get nervous at times when meeting bigger artists that I look up to.
Q: Who are you most hyped about seeing at Phoenix Lights?
A: I would have to say Vince Staples or Coyu.
Q: One quote you want to tell your avid fans?
A: I love you all, keep hustlin’.
