Just as in life, we encounter various stereotypes at EDM festivals. We’re not judging here. We’re just calling it how it is, and while we love each and every one of our vivacious, and very different fans, we’re here to help you to navigate through the group to see where you may fit in.
Below are 10 types of guys commonly found at electronic dance music festivals.
1. The Loner Boys
There’s one of these in every crowd. Whether they came with their friends and somehow lost them (all), or attended solo and came to snag a new crowd, these guys can be found at every festival. They’re usually the ones conducting interviews on any festival-goer within a 5-foot radius. Who’s your favorite DJ? Which stage are you going to? Where are you from? Who are you here with? Want to go get some water?
They’re everywhere.
And if it’s not your intention to initiate some new friends into your circle, we advise avoiding eye contact. It’s for the best.
2. The Overexcited Guys
You don’t want to stand between the overly-excited guy and his DJ of choice. We’re talking the dudes who bum rush the stage when their DJ comes on or when they hear their favorite jam pumping through the speakers. Treating festival grounds more like a bumper-car arena, these guys are going to trample, squash, and stomp over anything gets in their way.
We’re not mad and we know their excited, but can we get an “excuse me” every once in a while?
3. The Questionably Dressed Fellows
Halloween runs all year long for these guys. We’re talking about the male festival-goers you can see coming from a mile away. We get it. EDM festivals are a judgment-free zone, but you’re pushing the envelope, gentlemen. If you’re rummaging through your sister’s closet the day of the festival or you’re playing twins with a fellow female fan, you probably should rethink your priorities here. We’re not mad about it by any means because it is entertaining after all.
4. The Annoyingly Tall Dudes
We all know those guys. We’re talking about the ones who make better doors than windows and the ones who coincidentally stand right in front of us every, single, solitary, time.
We’re not mad that you’re tall.
We’re just mad that you insist on grabbing a seat right in front of us, cutting off our perfect view of the stage. Can we designate some type of a ‘tall man’ section from here on out?
5. The Ladies Man
You might as well call it Ultra Dating Festival or Electric Hookup Carnival because, for these guys, festivals are all about the short-term romances and finding their ‘rave bae.’
We’re talking about the ladies men of the festival world.
Gals, you know you’ve encountered one of these men at some point in your EDM expeditions. They’re the ones who are more into you than the music, eye-balling you from across the dance floor. But hey, to each his own. You keep blowing the kisses and we’ll keep daydreaming about the DJ.
6. The Cinematographer Fellers
This is a crowd population that’s growing with each generation. Equipped with a smartphone, we all think we’re professional videographers.
But hey, what better way to not only capture the moment for our memory banks but to also rub it in the faces of our friends who couldn’t attend than to post every single festival moment on social media?
We’re not mad at your embrace of modern day technology, just don’t get in our way while we’re busy filming our own snippet of the show.
7. The Bros
The bros can be found in virtually every music scene, not just the EDM world.
They’re multiplying by the minute. While they serve as the hype men for nearly every event, they may be a little too hype at times for electronic music festivals. With their fist-pumping, beer-bonging, V-neck-wearing personas, these guys are sure to bring life to any stage, whether you like it or not.
8. The Clueless Chaps
We’ve all been here at one point in our life — the time when we were a clueless festival noob.
There’s a first time for everything, and there are always first-timers at every electronic dance music festival.
While they may not be entirely familiar with our PLURing ways, there’s no room for judgment here. Grab a noob, show ’em the ropes, and watch them transform into a festival-loving veteran just like you. It’s kind of like adoption, but with a lot less commitment.
9. The Dancing Dudes
These dudes live for the music. The bass rolls down their spine and the dance moves follow soon after.
While the dancing dudes can be spotted at every festival of every genre, there are specific moves for each genre (and some we’re still trying to figure out).
The greatest thing about these guys is they here to party and they’re oozing good vibes. If you find yourself near a dancing man at your next festival, don’t be shy, hop on over, and a bust a move.
10. The Men Who Live For This
These are the guys that keep the music game strong.
They’re the ones who pride themselves on being the fans who are in it for all the right reasons — the music.
While you may not be able to spot these gentlemen based on their apparel or their actions at a show, you can surely tell who they are by the look in their eye.
They’re the guys whose eyes light up when the beat drops. They’re the guys who get goose bumps during an epic build. They’re the guys who spread the love for the music at every possible moment.
And they’re the guys who keep electronic dance music thriving.
Agg.. kind of lame, raves and festivals are about meeting new people, that means rule #1 sucks. That rule encourages people to be cli·quey oand to not be open and ready to bond, the real point of all raves was a self discovery with endless new faces that you bond with in a deep intensity. This article is completely lame IMHO.
