Warner Music Group Announces Strategic Alliance With Shazam

Warner Music Group is one of the top 3 record labels in the industry and, as of last Wednesday, is now partnered with Shazam. The strategic alliance will allow Warner to see what songs or artists are popular before their opposition.

Shazam was founded in 1999 as a mobile phone-based music identification service but has since transformed into so much more. Shazam manages to stay relevant in this ever-changing digital world by remaining on the forefront of new music technology and services.

Basically, Warner makes Shazam users their talent scouts to see what’s hot in hopes of signing EDM artists before they breakout.

Shazam is Warner’s record label and they will know who to sign first, with the help of user generated data.

WMG will have enormous amounts of data from the 88 million users worldwide. According to Shazam, their app is used 500 million times a month to “tag” or identify a song. We’ll most likely see WMG make even more money than they already do.
