German film and music producer Hans Zimmer is one of the most recognizable names in classical music composition of our generation. Zimmer has created works for over 100 films including award-winners such as The Lion King, Gladiator, The Dark Knight, and Inception. The recipient of four Grammy Awards, three Classical Brit Awards, two Golden Globes, an Academy Award, and (the cherry on top) was named Top 100 Living Geniuses the The Daily Telegraph.
Hans Zimmer adds another musical masterpiece to the resume.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Tomorrowland, Zimmer has teamed up with British composer and music producer Lorne Balfe whose past projects include music for Assassins Creed and The Dark Knight Rises.
Though Hans Zimmer is known for taking electronic music sounds and combing them with traditional orchestral elements, it’s safe to say that trap, moombahton, and big room progressive are a far stretch from his comfort zone. So why choose to create such a beautiful masterpiece for the largest electronic dance music gathering in The World?
Speaking to why he chose to to get involved and the story behind it, Zimmer notes:
The anthem is very much about bringing different cultures together. I mean you have tribal drums from tribes all over the world including, you know, the tribe of my people, the Germans. It sort of goes to show that the thing music does so well […] You can have all these cultures come together and collide in this firework of emotion and celebration. And really it’s supposed to be fun. It’s supposed to show you all the things that make us different, all the things that contrast us. I actually think we should be celebrating […] This music cannot exist without the emotional resonance of everybody who’s there and who’s hearing it.
The main theme that he consistently hits upon is musics cultural diversity and ability to bring us together. It goes to show the impact our EDM community continues to have and the direction it is going.
Zimmer goes on to add
I am definitely planning on coming to the anniversary edition of Tomorrowland. Being caged up in a dark room with a dark movie all my life, occasionally I’ve earned the right to just go out there and go crazy.
I’m not much of a bettin’ man but I would wager that Zimmer has never been to a musical gathering quite like this. Couldn’t have chosen a better one to take part in.
The full 10-minute Tomorrowland hymn will premiere this summer. Stay tuned fore more.
