Pioneer DJ is on the verge of something that could be hugely beneficial to the electronic dance community. The launch of KUVO essentially brings the club to you through a mobile application, by pushing DJ and track information from the booth onto the internet.
Sounds pretty awesome right?
Here’s a little background on the app: It started in The Netherlands at The Amsterdam Dance Event around Mid-October of 2013 in conjunction with DJ Club Network, the website that provides information about the app.
In essence, KUVO is designed to solve the issue of audience members not being able to see what the track name is that’s playing or identify the DJ behind the booth. At the club you can whip out your smartphone, sync the location to the venue you’re at, and instantly know who is playing and what the track name is.
As an innovation leader in club culture, Pioneer DJ has created a world to bring a new and richer experience to everyone, including the next generation of clubbers, to have even greater enjoyment of music.
So how does all this work?
Basically, it all comes down to this box. It’s not something that DJ’s own themselves, but rather the venue installs it. The venues apply for the service and create a profile on the app that will collect the DJ names, sets and tracks.
Some DJ’s are worried that this technology will put an end to exclusive tracks and secret set lists. Luckily the app allows you to make tracks public or private, providing customization for the DJ. Some DJ’s are also worried about people impersonating each other or encountering fraudulent tracks. In order to prevent this DJ’s must have an authentication key which is involved with the process of logging in and setting up your profile.
The ability to rate and see trends on the app will also allow for audience members to interact with each other and provide feedback to the DJ’s. Say you wanted to make it to a club but didn’t get a chance to go. The next day you can look it up on KUVO and the DJ and tracklist will instantly be in your hands.
The application and website are still a work in progress but sure to be changing the way we consume music soon enough.
One thing we know is for sure is that it is technology like this that continues to perpetuate the growth of the electronic dance community.
