I’MMORTAL is an NYC-based electronic music producer, vocalist, and visual artist whose multi-medium visuals elevate her otherworldly music into another dimension. I’MMORTAL spent two decades of her life not knowing she was born with audio-visual synesthesia, and has grown to learn that merging whimsical tunes to trippy visuals only comes naturally to her. She describes her music as “radioactive beats for people who want to take a break from reality”.
Her music videos effortlessly fuse the artificial with the natural world, and combine different mediums of visual art with live video footage such as 2D animation, 3D animation, VFX, and projection mapping. I’MMORTAL identifies as an audio-visual artist, and loves to collaborate with artists of different artistic backgrounds to create extraordinary audio-visual work. I’MMORTAL studied at NYU Tisch School of Art’s theater program, and her background in theater production can be recognized through the intricate set design and eccentric makeup choices seen in her videos.
She believes that her visuals allow the audience to experience her sound to the fullest, and refuses to release any music without a visual component. She is set to release three singles in 2023, each accompanied with a mind-bending visual component. The first track of the three project series, a tech house track titled “Versace Spaceship” and its corresponding music video showcasing a six-person human plant garden.
Growing up in Southern California, I’MMORTAL spent lots of time attending music festivals and raves where she fell in love with EDM and tech house music, and was eventually inspired to produce her own music. I’MMORTAL’S musical influences include artists such as Chris Lake, Mau P, Knock2, Malaa, ZHU, and Rezz. As an Asian-American artist, I’MMORTAL believes that in the recent years, rave culture has become a huge part of the collective Asian American/Pan Asian identity, and hopes that “Versace Spaceship” can be a groovy piece of ear candy for AAPI ravers around the world.
Featuring the bounciest bass, alien-esque vocals, and vibrant synths, “Versace Spaceship” is a sonically colorful blend of rhythms and textures that will make listeners feel like they dancing at an interdimensional rave. The tech-house track features many unexpected drops, including a 90s runway middle section and an unexpected trap outro.Versace Spaceship’s corresponding music video depicts I’MMORTAL abducting mere mortals onto her spaceship and then turning them into plants for her six-person psychedelic human garden. Featuring stunning set design and makeup, the video is a campy amalgamation of live video, 2D animation, 3D animation, and projection mapping. Versace Spaceship’s music video is a blend of artificial absurdity with the beauty of the natural world. “Versace Spaceship” is I’MMORTAL’s introduction into the world, and offers a sneak peak into the extraordinary audio-visual masterpieces to come in 2023.
